About the school

At My First School, young children learn and grow in a safe, nurturing environment where teachers and staff offer opportunities that spark curiosity and wonder, encourage independence, and foster positive social interactions with peers. Teachers at My First School work to establish a classroom community that fosters the development of early learning and literacy skills alongside social-emotional growth. My First School is a licensed childcare provider in the state of Florida. In order to obtain this certification, centers must maintain a safe and clean environment for children filled with developmentally-appropriate toys and play spaces.

Educational philosophy and administration

My First School uses The Creative Curriculum to accomplish its goal of nurturing each child’s independence and curiosity. Teachers follow flexible lesson plans, allowing children to explore their own expression independently and collectively as a class. The school focuses on communi-cation and social skills, preparing students for the next steps in their social and academic devel-opment. Teachers use specialized learning materials and toys to help children develop gross and fine motor skills. Spanish language education and immersion are also important parts of the cur-riculum. The staff brings in guest speakers to teach various lessons, including cooking and His-panic heritage. The curriculum includes multiple relaxation and meditation methods, providing a primer for the continued lessons of self-care. One parent appreciates the various lessons, “I've had my son in this school for two months now and the advancement in his development has been amazing. He's only one year old, but I've noticed such a big change in his speech and social de-velopment!” Soraya Sanabria serves as the director of My First School. To one parent, she is more than just the director, “She is very special for my kids specifically. They love her and every important event in their life, they always want to share it with Soraya.” Parents believe Soraya has chosen a success-ful staff, with one saying, “The teachers are all so great and sweet. They really made it easy for the transition from home nanny to a school.” Another describes, “They send homework every day so your child can get into the habit and doesn't go into shock when they start VPK and ele-mentary.”
