About the school

The Blake School offers full-time and part-time programs for children age three through five, including VPK. This Gold Seal school began serving the Plantation community in 1967. It’s open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, with before-care and after-care. The school implements the Montessori method, and the staff believes in “educating the whole child.”

Educational philosophy and administration

The Montessori Method celebrates a child’s almost effortless ability to take in new information and gain knowledge through hands-on experiences while interacting with different materials. Teachers strive to create an environment that is consistently enriching and challenging its students through a variety of programs and resources, including an extensive library, a digital lab with computers featuring educational games and programs, Spanish classes and a comprehensive arts curriculum. To make sure children are receiving the best education, the school “employs specialists for music, Spanish, physical education and art.” Teachers assign homework to all students and encourage parents to help. Children get to interact and socialize with their peers of all different ages. One parent praised, “My son has progressed so much and has learned so much in this school! Their curriculum is excellent, and all the students are extremely smart! Great teachers, great environment and great school!” Linnie Lunde Jordan founded The Blake School. Director Joyce Hutson has been with the school since 1970. The staff and leadership strive to be caring, encouraging and communicative with parents. One parent highlights, “Throughout the time here, my son was challenged to grow as an individual, matured in many different ways, created bonds with teachers, classmates and learned important lessons. We too, as a family, were given the opportunity to create a great relationship with all the teachers and be involved in every aspect.”
